Kohoutek comet dims future spectacle for naked eye
U S Navy astronomer Myron Miranian says Kohoutek will be far fainter than earlier predictions and likely not observable with the naked eye for long. He notes the head may not exceed Jupiter’s brightness and a 15 degree tail could be visible briefly around January 5 to 15, with limited appeal for astronomers compared to Halley or Ikeya Seki.
