Roswell Wins Grant for Cahoon Park Upgrades

The Bureau of Outdoor Recreation approves an 84926 grant to Roswell for Cahoon Park improvements including a bath house at the pool five lighted tennis courts parking fencing sidewalks and landscaping. Roswell will match funds bringing total project cost to about 169852 as announced by Congressman Harold Runnels Washington office.

Award honors Hall with Service To Mankind honor

Willie E. Hall received the annual Service To Mankind award at a Pecos Valley Sertoma luncheon at Chew Den. The plaque and citation were presented by club president Kelly Masters Jr. with awards chairman Raymond Otero noting Hall’s local nomination for the district contest.

Chaves County commissioners received 197 784 and Roswell 108 643 for the first half of 1972 revenue sharing. Figures revised show county up about 67 000 while Roswell is down about 300 000 from earlier estimates.

Roswell zoning hearing delayed to Jan 9 session

Roswell Mayor William F Brainerd said a public hearing on a zoning change for a proposed apartment house on Gayle Street has been postponed to the January 9 City Council meeting. Protests from area residents and a related height variance request are among items to be discussed along with a shopping center site plan and lease talks.

Chrismon Tree to Highlight First Presbyterian Christmas Service

A Chrismon tree will glow during the Hanging of the Green service at 7 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church Third and Kentucky. The 10 year old United States tradition uses white and gold ornaments with symbols of Christ.
