Washington December 11. The Post Office Department reduced its annual deficit from 17.5 million to 5.85 million for the year ending June 30. The report credits efficiency gains and service expansion, noting 1500 new post offices and 515 rural routes, plus thousands of new employees and higher salaries tied to performance. Mrs. Sarah M. Brown Dies After Illness in Roswell

Mrs. Sarah Mildred Brown aged 63 died at 5 30 Sunday evening at the home of Mrs. L B Tannehill on N Pennsylvania avenue following a brief illness from pneumonia. Born in Independence Missouri she spent her life there before coming to spend winter with daughters in Roswell. Survived by two brothers Buck Kelly and J H Kelly a sister Mrs L P Norfleet and nine children seven living Frank R Brown Claude Brown Miss Matilda D Brown and the three named with two in other cities. Funeral held at the Tannehill home this afternoon and body to be taken to Independence Missouri for burial. Mrs Moss of Denver will remain in Roswell for extended visit.

Fire damages Tammany Hall Wigwam in New York

A blaze partly destroyed the Tammany Hall Wigwam in New York. Fire was largely due to water damage from the flames said to have started by a lighted cigar left in the hall’s boxes or gallery after a dance last night. Estimated damage is 25000 dollars.

Hunter Feagle Arrested in Johnson County Murders

Boundary dispute with Texas to be settled in New Mexico statehood act

Washington December 9. The boundary line between New Mexico and Texas will be fixed by law as New Mexico seeks statehood. A White House conference with Senators Bailey Culberson and Stevenson Delegate Andrews and John V Farwell discussed the Clark survey of 1859 and 1860. Taft will urge congressional action to recognize that survey as the boundary.

Taft Nominates Chief Justice and Commerce Court Members

The President sent to the Senate nominations for Chief Justice Edward White and four associate justices for the Supreme Court. He also named seven judges for the new commerce court and two Interstate Commerce Commission members. Nominations include Willis Van Deventer and Joseph Rucker Lamar with Knapp Archbold Hunt Carland Mack named for terms varying from one to five years. The court balance becomes three Republicans and two Democrats. Edward White confirmed as Chief Justice. Lehmann named solicitor general. Lorimer charges deemed not proven by the Senate subcommittee.
