British diver Guy linked to Wanderwell death on Carma

Detectives in Long Beach identify William James Guy as the mysterious stranger aboard the yacht Carma after Miss Marion Smith and crew members place him at the scene before Captain Walter Wanderwell was found shot. Washington reports veteran administrator Frank T. Hines told a joint committee that gratitude to veterans has tied to prosperity. He outlined cumulative United States payments since 1789 totaling 15.37 billion dollars, with World War I veterans receiving about 6.32 billion by mid-1932, including hospitals, rehabilitation, retired pay, and a 3.7 billion official bonus to nearly 4 million veterans or dependents. 23 Known Dead in Kentucky Mine Explosion at Yancey

In Harlan Kentucky yesterday an explosion at the Zero mine killed 23 workers with rescue teams reporting all victims recovered by midnight. Four more bodies were removed this morning bringing the death toll to 23 as investigations into the blast continued and rescuers wore gas masks against carbon monoxide.

Santa Claus visits bring candy to thousands of children

Nearly 8,000 children received boxes of candy from Santa Claus as a long line of cars wound through Main and Albuquerque to Sixth and Main. Santa distributed his three thousand boxes before ending the 1932 visit with 60 remaining, donated to the Salvation Army.

New Scout Troop Formed At L. F. D.

A new Boy Scout troop in the L. F. D. community sponsored by the L. F. D. Parent-Teacher Association held its first meeting with 12 boys present all passing tenderfoot tests H. M. Foster is Scoutmaster and F. Fay is assistant scoutmaster.

Bank vault raid foiled. guard injured in Cleveland

In Cleveland on December 10, two men armed with revolvers attempted to loot the Central United National Bank on West 25th Street. A watchman, Edward Clasen, 44, resisted, was chloroformed, pushed down an elevator shaft about 15 feet, and suffered a broken wrist and possible rib fractures. The robbers fled.

Washington December 10 AP Commissioner Ralph B Williamson of the federal power commission died at his hotel apartment early today from a heart attack He was 52 years old.

Extensive soil survey planned around Roswell area

The United States Bureau of Soils and Chemistry will conduct an extensive soil survey in the irrigated Roswell region beginning shortly after the new year. Work will be based in the county agent’s office and likely cover Roswell Dexter Hagerman areas, with tests at one two and three feet. Maps will show soil character, including local designations like Roswell silt, and data will aid official soil information for the land.

Three Drainage District Trials Set For Monday

Firemen Fight Early Morning House Blaze in Roswell

Roswell firemen battled a four hour blaze at J J Hays residence at 110 North Sea. The roof burned off and interior damage occurred from water. Loss reportedly insured. Sparks also set fire to the Bird home at 112 North Lea, requiring re shingling and interior damage. Alarm came in at 1 39 AM from Mr Bird. occupants included Mr and Mrs Hays, Miss Clara Sanders and Mr and Mrs A B Demme.
