Valles Caldera access plan halted amid tribal worries
The Valles Caldera Trust paused plans to allow unrestricted public access after tribes and pueblos protested a lack of consultation. Board chair Kent Salazar cited legal and environmental review needs, while Jemez Pueblo Gov. Vin cent Toya Sr. warned the policy threatens cultural privacy and ceremonies. The plan, voted in September, faced criticism for rapid adoption without tribal input.
