New Mexico offices to close or consolidate farms agency bureaus

The Department of Agriculture will close or merge 16 New Mexico offices over three years as part of a nationwide plan to cut 11,000 jobs and save 3.6 billion dollars. Artesia may lose its one office per county exemption after Hagerman and Capitan sites are likely razed or repurposed.

RHS principal denies pressure to cut fail rate

Roswell High School principal Sandy Pickens refuted reports that teachers are pressed to reduce the dropout rate or that new procedures were begun to determine student failure. She stressed that graduation depends on the New Mexico competency test, a legal requirement outside the school's control, and that no procedural changes have been made since she became principal.

Man survives 20 foot leap then dragged by car on I-10

A 37 year old man leaped from a Jefferson Davis Highway overpass onto I 10 where four vehicles collided avoiding him. He was struck and dragged but survived with minor scrapes. He then screamed when rescued and will face a psychiatric exam and possible obstruction charge.
