Two Killed in Head-On Passenger Train Collision Near Canyon City
A dense fog and sleet caused a head-on crash seven miles east of Canyon City Texas as southbound No 201 and northbound No 28 collided on the New Mexico Eastern track at 10 28 Sunday. Engineer Ed Mahan of Roswell and Mail Clerk J J Smith of Carlsbad died. Fireman Claud Holstein of Roswell and Conductor Barney Nelson of 28 were injured. The wreck disrupted both trains with extensive damage to engines and cars and lenders to late arrivals. Mahan’s body to Ohio and Smith’s to Commerce Texas.
