The IRS announced easing of proposed rules ending expense account living. Commissioner Mortimer Caplin opened two days of hearings on the 1962 tax law. the regulations require detailed records to back deductions for business travel entertainment and gifts.
About 150 Grants High School students were sick with vomiting after a cafeteria lunch of hamburger and corn. The school closed for inspection as ten were hospitalized and about 80 treated at doctors’ offices. Illness began at a school assembly. tests to identify the cause are underway.
Long Beach AP report details a depth dive off Santa Catalina Island by Peter Small and Hannes Keller using a Keller gas mix in a diving bell. Small died, Whittaker vanished while helping, Keller survived. Whittaker is missing and presumed drowned.
Lawyer Ronald Armstrong-Jones, father-in-law of Princess Margaret, is recovering from an abdominal operation, according to a disclosed report on Monday.

Norman Rourke, Record police reporter, became the accident victim while attempting to cross North Main Street at Fifth Street with the walk light. Billy Kirk, 17, left onto Main from Fifth in a foreign car, struck him, bruising a hip and leaving him windless. He was treated at St Mary’s Hospital and released. Rourke quipped that next time he would jaywalk.
Roswell Community College moves to daytime offerings next semester with classes to begin in February 1963 after Jan 1 use of the old Post Office building. ENMU leaders and Walker AFB officials say 100 daytime students expected. night classes to continue at Roswell High.
A secret Chicago meeting drew 30 to 50 conservatives aiming to deny Gov. Nelson Rockefeller the 1964 nomination and back Sen. Barry Goldwater. Attendees noted South support for Goldwater, while some argued for a strong national chairman and Senate focus. Goldwater and Rockefeller offered no firm comment.
