Skeleton Found In Northern New Mexico Believed Ray Sutton

Denver AP report says federal investigators awaiting skeletal remains found near Eagle Nest lake may be Ray Sutton, a prohibition officer missing since August 28, 1930. Remains, reportedly crushed skull, point to gangland killing tied to the Kearney slaying in Aguilar. Sutton, once Union county sheriff, vanished while pursuing bootleggers between Raton and Taos.

Bitter election eve in Louisiana stirs fears of bloodshed

Hospital Holds Possible Floyd Double In Fort Smith

In Fort Smith Arkansas a hospital guards were withdrawn as deputies say a man there could be an exact double of outlaw Charles Arthur Floyd but cannot identify him. Police confirm two women present as Mrs Floyd and Miss Collins. Mrs Floyd registered under another name.

Santa Claus to Visit Roswell on Saturday

Santa Claus will visit Roswell next Saturday with a bag of candy for children. All youngsters should be in cars on South Main Street south of Abuquerque Ave by one PM to ride down Main Street to the Christmas tree on North Main for candy. A free picture show for children will run next Saturday morning and the following Saturday.

Record cotton ginned in Chaves and Eddy counties

By December 1 ginned cotton in Chaves and Eddy counties totals 41 400 bales, eclipsing last season by 8 455 bales. Ginning finishes by March, crop about 95 percent picked, with two weeks expected to finish cleaning. Despite 6 000 acres plowed under a government reduction, the season yields are noted as the best.

Lands Flaming Plane At Watrous

The Western Air Express plane burned in midair and was destroyed near Watrous New Mexico on December 4. Pilot Dave Hissong of Cheyenne Wyoming smelled smoke and landed at an emergency field below, saving the mail sack and valuables before the flaming aircraft fully engulfed the wreck. The mail was saved from loss while the plane burned at about 800 feet between Trinidad Colorado and Las Vegas New Mexico.

Memorial Meeting For William LeRoy Wolfe Tablets Dedicat

The Chaves County Archaeological and Historical Society unveils a marble memorial tablet for William LeRoy Wolfe. The tablet arrived last Saturday and will be dedicated at a memorial meeting next week at Carnegie Library, where the society’s museum is. Wolfe was a charter member. other founders will be inscribed as they die. The society's regular meeting occurs in the district courtroom.

Roswell Merchants to Hear Camp Talk at Monthly Meet

The Roswell Merchants Association will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Nickson Coffee Shop tomorrow night. Captain Charles J. Booth of the CCC camp near Bottonless Lakes will discuss the camp and the state park project. Also on the program are a report on the Eastern New Mexico State Fair, committee reports, and elections for association and fair directors. Pritchard Missing Couple Searched Across Kansas and Oklahoma

Wichita police and a 5000-strong search party combed four border counties in Kansas and Oklahoma for Harry and Mrs. Pritchard missing since November 23. Bloody clothing found near Pinckwell, Oklahoma hints at possible foul play. their car was found near Bristow.

Four killed in Great Northern wreck near Milan Wash

A Great Northern freight derailed after a rock slide near Milan Washington, killing four men W J Barrett engineer William Krueger fireman Leonard Hargrove and J T Towhey brakeman all from Hillyard Spokane with two others injured. The wreck halted traffic for up to 48 hours on the line north of Spokane.

Hatch Returns to Washington After Month in New Mexico

Senator Carl Hatch of New Mexico returned to his Washington office after about a month in his home state. He plans to stay through the upcoming session and will issue statements on his plans after clearing the mail on his desk. Hatch arrived in Washington in October after being appointed to fill the unexpired term of Senator Bratton, who left for the federal circuit court of appeals.

Tax meeting at Santa Fe discusses four year assessment law

Pepperday Suggested as New Mexico Airport Commissioner

A wire to Gov. Hockenhull from Edgar Puryear, secretary to Sen. Cutting, proposes T. M. Pepperday of Albuquerque, publisher of the Albuquerque Journal, as a non salaried New Mexico airport commissioner. Puryear notes the need for a project reviewer with aeronautics interest and city needs knowledge, to pass on airport projects under the civil works program. The governor will discuss the appointment with Pepperday.

Gas rate hearing set for Albuquerque line case

A hearing on fixing gas transmission rates for the Albuquerque Natural Gas Company's pipeline in New Mexico has been postponed by the state corporation commission to January 12. Angel's Peak Oil Company seeks a rate for gas transmission and a firm recently filed related evidence.

Elks Lodge Memorial Service Vets Annual Remembered

Roswell Lodge No. 969 B P O Elks held its annual memorial day service to honor members who died in the year ending December 3. The rites began at 3 pm with M J McDonald P E R directing and Elmer Riemen Lea Rowland and others assisting. An Elizabeth Garrett Sextette provided sacred music and the audience joined in Auld Lang Syne before dismissal.
