Greek leaders maintain truce appeal while Britain reports heavy sea losses. British air actions raid Italy and Germany as Nazi bombers strike Bristol port. Reported sinking of 18 British ships yesterday highlighted by German and Allied dispatches.
The Associated Press reports Greek forces in the southern Albania front have pushed toward Elbasani and Pogradetz with a left wing thrust threatening the last Italian garrison, while the right wing drives toward central Albania. A government spokesman called the advance the most important. Pope Pius XII urged a Christmas truce as German U boats sank ships and RAF raids targeted Naples, Augusta, Lorient, and shipping along the Norwegian coast.
Census bureau advised Roosevelt that based on the 1940 census California gains three seats in the House and New Mexico plus seven other states gain one each. Ten states lose one seat. Continental U S population totals 131,669,275. Final tabulations follow April census returns.
The Christmas lighting contest expands to five city districts plus a rural district. Cash prizes of 8, 6, and 4 dollars are awarded per district based on a Chamber of Commerce vote. Ballots go to members and households. decorations stressing simple displays are urged to curb costs. Lights come on December 22.
Washington dispatch says Chairman Dies urged the people of America to support the unAmerican activities committee for another year. He claimed five acts of sabotage damaged an experimental plane at a major plant, jamming controls and falsifying gauges, leading to a crash despite preventive measures. He warned any sabotage would be a fifth column victory and pressed for continued congressional investigation.
The National Youth Administration will begin two Roswell projects next week, a sewing program employing 45 girls and a clerical program for 15 boys. Area supervisor Cather Morper will interview applicants at the Roswell Chamber of Commerce Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. eligibility requires ages 17 to 25, being unmarried, and not in school.

Fifteen thousand national guardsmen in army anti aircraft units will undergo thirteen or more weeks of intensive classroom study before firing a gun at the Hinesville training center. H D Hodson was chosen as Kiwanis Club president for 1941 at a luncheon. Other officers include A B Cotton as 1st vice president and Norman Savage as 2nd vice president. The meeting featured Louis M. Colorado expects general fair weather with warmer temperatures in the southeast tonight and on Wednesday. Arizona remains fair tonight and Wednesday with little temperature change. West Texas sees fair skies tonight with some cloudiness and a slight drop in temperature in the north.
The forecast covers Arizona New Mexico and West Texas from 5 30 p m Tuesday December 3 to 5 30 p m Saturday December 7 Temperatures remain above normal across the district with near normal readings in western Texas and little or no precipitation anticipated across the area.
Carbon monoxide poisoning was indicated by FBI tests as the cause of the Artesia tourist camp deaths in New Mexico. Lawson Shepard of Lovington and Mrs Lois Garten of Hobbs died, Mrs Zola Dean of Lovington survived but in critical condition. A coroner's jury verdict was held in abeyance while blood samples were examined.
