A heater outside sparked a blaze that destroyed the attic and collapsed the roof of a Roswell home. Five residents including three adults and two infants escaped unharmed. The structure is a total loss with cars and heirlooms ruined. neighbors offered aid as the family begins recovery.
The New Mexico Department of Health identifies six patients from Chaves County with confirmed Legionnaires' disease since early October. Two patients, a 69 year old woman and a 65 year old woman, have died. All had underlying health issues. NMDOH, with Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, works to identify infection sources.
The Roswell Parks and Recreation Commission forms a new review committee to solicit and evaluate bids to manage the Nancy Lopez Spring River Golf Course after October council rejection of an Illinois firm proposal. Parks Commissioner JaneAnn Oldrup and Mayor Dennis Kintigh appoint members. bidding resumes with planned March decision.
The Finance Committee backed a $19.85 million smart water meter project to replace city meters with wireless units. The plan, described as a banner project for Roswell and New Mexico, would fund bonds to improve leak detection customer service and billing ahead of a full City Council vote on December 8.
