Roswell Gas Shortage Shuts Down Most City Stations

A late Saturday survey found most Roswell service stations closed or restricting Sunday hours. Only three would open for Sunday, with one serving the general public for emergency car refueling only after a prospect form. Several stations operated for trucks or limited car service, while others remained closed under Sunday bans and allotment rules.

Artesian killed at RR crossing in Artesia

A 64 year old Artesia man Roger G. Anderson died when his pickup collided with a Santa Fe Railway engine at East Washington Avenue crossing. His son Gary Anderson age about 21 was flown to an El Paso hospital. The crash occurred at 9 34 a m. Officials said the pickup was struck on the right front as it traveled east toward the crossing. Information on the younger Anderson’s condition was not available.

Nixon to create Federal Energy Administration for energy crisis

President Nixon plans a new independent agency titled the Federal Energy Administration to centralize energy policy, oversee fuel allocation, and report directly to the President.
