The Catholic Bank, operating under an Arizona charter and initially patronized by clergy, closed its doors after deposits were withdrawn. About $804,000 in deposits, largely from poorer customers, were affected as a receiver was appointed.
Keeney Will Min ter Charley Sharp and others report they found and staked a new route to Torrance. The shorter smoother path could be built if the mail contract is secured, requiring a substantial outlay by the company.
Married by Elder C. C. Hill at his South Kentucky avenue home W. R. Newman 47 and Mary Keisling 42 were issued a license late yesterday and wed last night. They plan a brief stay in Roswell before moving to Cedar Hill 25 miles northwest to establish their home.

Hon. Herbert J. Hagerman newly appointed governor of New Mexico will address the Sunday celebration at the Sisters' hospital at 3:30 in the afternoon. The event marks the governor's speaking debut in the ceremonies.

Secretary of the Interior Hitchcock approves the letting of the contract for work on the Honda reservoir to Wood Bancroft and Doty of Omaha. They are to build embankments 3 and 4 and begin within thirty days. The contract was signed in Washington on November 28.
On Thanksgiving morning the Tigers defeated the Carmack team by 5 to 3 in a lively public school game. The winners will meet a small Military Institute squad later today, continuing a brisk holiday schedule.

Roswell Country Club adopts winter construction plans for a one story frame club house on grounds northeast of the city. The building features a 12 foot wide porch on two sides, a 70 foot long front porch, and a 22 by 36 foot reception hall. It includes dressing rooms cloak rooms toilet rooms reading rooms and can be expanded to double in size without altering appearance.
Salt Lake dispatch reports an explosion last night in Diamondville mine number one killing eighteen men, mostly English workers. Five bodies recovered by eleven o clock. officials say the shot likely caused the disaster and that mine output should resume in a few days despite structural damage being minimal.
The Great Northern Telegram Company severed communications between London and St Petersburg this afternoon. Messages were received this morning but nothing has come through since noon. London officials cannot reach their St Petersburg offices and have no information about the stoppage call.

All fittings will be finished for Christmas at Walton's Studio from now until December 16. Cards and mountings will be the latest styles.
J H and R H Mook left Friday for Marion Indiana with their son Harry Mook a young man brought here five weeks ago in hopeless condition. He cannot recover and will be accompanied to St Louis by W E McWhirt who will then proceed to Louisville Kentucky to begin his third year at Louisville Medical College.
Wallace Stevens has returned from a two months stay in Pittsburg and other eastern points to attend to business and visit his wife. Mrs. Stevens did not accompany him and is expected to return to Roswell around Christmas.
E. F. Scoville left Friday morning for his home in Tribune Kansas after spending three months here prospecting. He was employed part of the time at the Pecos Valley Drug Company's Store.
Mrs M C Baxter who has lived here for some time departed yesterday morning for her old home in Harper Springs Michigan She plans to return soon.
Henry C. Owen of Dexter was a visitor here on Friday, stopping by local contacts and exchanging greetings with residents during his daytime stay.

In New York a group of seven Erie railroad tunnel workers were struck by a train today. Three laborers were killed and four others seriously hurt. The accident occurred as the crew was working inside the tunnel and efforts are underway to secure the scene and aid the injured.

Higday, the Elliott couple of Dexter, and W. L. Packard of Carlsbad touring through the area this morning. Packard, now with Pecos Valley Immigration Company, was in town Friday on company business.
Jim Williamson and T. E. Farr of Hagerman visited here on Friday. H. Elrick came up from Dexter Friday morning for a short visit with his brother.
