White Girl Slayer Faces Electric Chair
Walter Whitaker Jr a 23 year old Air Force cadet faced the electric chair for the February 1953 murder of Joyce Vern White an 18 year old Lubbock high school student. The State Board of Pardons denied a commutation to life imprisonment after appeals from Whitaker’s parents of Wetherfield Connecticut. Whitaker testified at trial that Joyce told him she might be pregnant and he hoped to marry her but she later said she was not pregnant.
