UNM researchers lead NSF funded study on neurodegenerative disease sensors
Eva Chi and colleagues at the University of New Mexico will head a three year NSF funded project to develop protein conformation selective sensors for early detection of neurodegenerative diseases. The team includes Deborah Evans Kiran Bhaskar and David Whtten in chemical biology and molecular genetics. The work aims to detect brain protein aggregates long before symptoms appear, potentially enabling earlier diagnosis and treatment. Alzheimer's remains the most prevalent dementia with a new U.S. case diagnosed every 60 seconds according to the release.
