Pilot in Bahamas crash lacked authorization for pop star flight
The pilot of the Bahamas crash that killed Aaliyah and eight others did not have federal authorization to fly the Cessna and had faced crack cocaine possession charges 12 days earlier. Morales Blanes, 30, was not listed as pilot for Blackhawk International Airways and the company held an air taxi certificate. Investigations consider excess weight and other factors. Blackhawk reportedly lacked a local charter license. Morales previously received probation for drug and theft-related charges.
