The Southern M. E. Church congregation meets in Spring Mound Valley with Rev. J. W. Smith in attendance. Plans discussed include rebuilding a parsonage and purchasing a pipe organ, with support for Rev. Smith’s return and year end work.
Residents east and northeast of Dexter urge locating the new bridge east of Dexter to improve access to the railroad post office and Roswell trading. They argue benefits favor Spring Mound Valley and established settlements over Hagerman and east-of-river lands.

Bryan lands from a Gravesend Bay launch and begins a city reception schedule with New Haven Bridgeport Newark and Jersey City appearances. He avoids politics and comments on Russia’s upcoming government. Democratic officials join the Bryan procession as seven Nebraska mayors accompany him.
Kansas City cattle receipts total 7 000 with steady market across native and western steers cows and calves and stockers and feeders. sheep receipts 5 000 with steady prices for muttons and lambs. St Louis wool prices steady with territory and western mediums at 24 to 28 cents and fine medium to 14 to 22 cents. Also city ordinance note on accounts requiring formal city form and oath verification for city expenditures.
Philadelphia Aug 30 Coroner King of Montgomery county said Frank Hipple president of the Real Estate Trust Co. killed himself with a 38 caliber revolver to prevent a run on the firm. Hipple placed the gun in his mouth and fired according to the coroner.
Philadelphia Aug 30. With the second mate ill from what appears yellow fever the British steamer Lodge from Tampico via Norfolk was placed in quarantine today at the Delaware breakwater. Engineer M D Carlton reports cattle country is in fine condition with abundant water and grass between Roswell and Amarillo. Texico businessmen organize a 25000 dollar ice plant company to be built immediately.
S J and G C Welter of Roswell have a patent allowed in Washington for a lubricating device for wagon wheels. The invention adds axle grease and distributes it on the spindle as needed. The Welters seek to monetize the patent via sale or royalties.
Vice President Fairbanks spoke to about six thousand at Osawatomie Kansas for the fiftieth anniversary of the battle of Osawatomie led by John Brown. A Commercial Club committee solicited funds for the Odd Fellows Territorial Home for Widows and Orphans in Roswell. Over $500 were raised by noon.
Receivership official Earle outlines reorganization of the Real Estate Trust Co as creditors get preferred stock for their claims and appoint their own officers, a move he says offers the only chance to recover funds. Local notes cover school letters, a military institute admission, typhoid fever updates, a hunting trip, and several small community notices.
Local 6 am observation for Roswell New Mexico reports a max 88 min 57 mean 72 with no precipitation. Wind northwesterly at 2 mph. Forecast calls for partly cloudy skies tonight and Friday with warmer temperatures.
Kentucky delegates arrived in Roswell to inspect alfalfa fields and orchards in Pecos Valley. A party of 33 men from the bluegrass, including Hughes Waller of Morganfield and J T Givens of Paducah, traveled with connections to H Wallace Stevens, for a three day stay with potential plans to locate.
