Robert Beck longtime Roswell Daily Record publisher dies

Roswell Daily Record owner and former publisher Robert Beck died in San Diego California on Friday August 24 at age 97. Beck started as circulation manager in 1947 and led as publisher for 32 years from 1955, shaping the paper now still printed at 2301 N Main St. He served on ENMU Pioneer Bank and other boards and was a decorated World War II pilot. He is survived by his wife Marjorie daughters Carol Kate Barbara current publisher Cory, and many friends. Burial with military honors at Santa Fe National Cemetery followed by services in Santa Fe September 4. Public visitation precedes the Berardinelli services.

Yucca Center Demolition Planned by Roswell City Council

The Roswell Infrastructure Committee discussed demolishing the Yucca Recreation Center after bids showed favorable prices. City Manager Joe Neeb noted earlier talks with a private party about converting space for an indoor tennis court but no agreement was reached. Council vote Aug 9 stood 8-2 with two dissenters, and demolition moves forward.

Oilfield Olympic Games Open At Artesia Festival
