Roswell violin maker builds craft from a used bookshop past
Tucker recalls working in a Roswell used bookstore that also dealt in antiques and art. He describes the shop filled with shelves of books, customers bringing truckloads, decorators buying by the shelf, and a 1940s German violin that sparked his interest in luthiery. He began lessons in 1976, now builds his 33rd violin, repairs many instruments, and plans a Tucson competition with two of his violins and one by his student Kamil Strzyzewski. He notes the two violin types and the gap between steel string fiddlers and gut string players. He loves seeing his tone matched by others and keeps playing daily despite not being a full-time musician.
