Giant tractor pull to headline Southwestern Futurity at ENM State Fair
A two day Southwestern Grand Futurity Tractor Pull set for Sept. 2 3 at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds features a massive machine with two huge tires and an airplane engine. The event is a Class A Texas Tractor Pullers Association contest with 17 events and double points for entrants from Colorado Kansas New Mexico Oklahoma and West Texas. Organizers note tractors are heavily modified often using alcohol or diesel fuel. The Dexter Pulling Team led by Jim Berry fields several machines including a 1951 Massey Harris with a 454 turbo Chevrolet engine. The ENM State Fair Board sponsors a four event lineup for local competitors including field stock and four wheel drive pickups.

Air compressor blast damages Roswell car shop
An explosion at Jerry Pritchard Chevrolet on 1600 W. Second St. damaged the building and vehicles after a safety device failure caused two air compressors to rupture. No injuries reported.
