Pence promotes new detention rule expanding Flores standards
Vice President Pence described a new rule lifting the 20 day cap on migrant child detention and extending custody during asylum processing. The rule aims to keep families together and to return those without valid claims, with a 60 day effective date and calls for Congressional immigration reform. Critics warn of risks to child welfare and expanded DHS authority. Pence spoke after a briefing at Artesia with Bernhardt and Ross.
