A rumor claims John Eiland has been captured by Mexican bandits for ransom, with a baffling letter to Mrs. Eiland signed by George Reese but written in Eiland’s handwriting. Local friends doubt the tale yet fear for his safety as he recently left Portales after bank losses and a failed county treasurer bid.

Thomas Fahy aged 19 of Springfield Missouri died at 10 11 this morning at Ward Sanitarium from consumption.
