One dead in Juarez border gunbattle reported
A gun battle between Mexican police and gunmen near the Rio Grande left one dead and prompted a temporary closure of a El Paso border highway. No bullets crossed into the United States, authorities said. Several officers were wounded and a gunman killed.

Templeman to be sworn in as 5th District judge
Incoming Judge James Templeman will be sworn in Thursday at Lovington High School at 4 p.m. He replaces Judge Don Maddox who resigned July 1. Templeman, a former Lovington lawyer and secretary of state clerk, holds ENMU and UT Law degrees and has near 40 years in the New Mexico Bar Association. Governor Richardson announced the appointment.

Iran begins loading fuel at Bushehr first nuclear plant
