Mr and Mrs L R Basham are reported dead in Hereford in a tragedy that shocked the local community. Authorities say the couple were found at their home with no signs of foul play evident on initial inspection. The investigation continues as neighbors recall the couple’s quiet, active involvement in town affairs.
Mrs. L. R. Basham aged about 60 to 65 died from a broken neck and Mr. L. R. Basham about 72 suffered fatal skull fractures after a frighted horse team bolted six miles east of Hereford Texas. They jumped from the buggy as an auto passed causing the collision. The Bashams formerly of Roswell lived until four years ago. Interment planned in Hereford.
J S Campbell of Pecos Valley Trading Co was seriously hurt when horses started to run away and he was thrown from his wagon near John Holloman's home on West Eleventh Street. He was unconscious for about twenty minutes and expected to recover but may be sidelined. W W Irwin marked his 52nd birthday with a North Main dinner for friends. Engineer M D Carlton, sick with typhoid, is now able to go out. Mrs O R Tanner of Hagerman was in town on business today.
