Rice University reports Hank Berry Garrett freshman at Rice and member of a four man Arctic Circle research team is safe on high ground near Fort Yukon Alaska about 200 miles north of flooded Fairbanks. He studied Space Science and earned a $600 scholarship for the coming year and made the Presidents Honor Roll.

Tijerina Group Denounces U S Calls Nation a Prostitute

At a convention in Albuquerque Spanish-American land grant members condemned U S policies and accused the nation of immorality. Leader Tijerina urged alliances, suggested Mexico appeal to the United Nations, and announced a September federal trial over land seizures. 4-H'ers State Fair Entries Chosen at Achievement Day

Chaves County 4-H entries for the New Mexico State Fair were selected at Achievement Day. First place winners across 22 homemaking and electrical categories will exhibit Sept. 15 24 in Albuquerque. Winners include Daneen Harshey Patty Bramblett Debra Sanders among others across baking, leathercraft, photography, and Home Living divisions with multiple first place honors.

Fair Parade Set as ENM Fair’s Largest Yet

The 1967 Eastern New Mexico State Fair parade on Main Street will feature over 100 floats bands and antique cars with a Man and His World theme. Parade chairmen Ali n Watson Gary Thompson and Jerry Henson expect trophies cash awards for best float oldest car best decorated bicycle and more. 13-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Farm Tank Southeast of Roswell

Pamela Bradley, 13, of 211 E. Summit, drowned Friday in a stock tank on the Pirtle Farm near Roswell after reportedly walking onto a plank that gave way. Witnesses said she fell into about seven to eight feet of water. rescue attempts failed and she died from accidental drowning at St. Marys Hospital. Her companions Christina Aragon, Helen Avila, and Cecilia Trujillo were present, with Pirtle relatives aiding rescue.

Corky Hare Tops in 4-H Horse Show

Corky Hare led the Chaves County 4-H Achievement Day Horse Show at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds south of Roswell, taking two firsts and two seconds. Western Pleasure boosters, Reined Stock Horse, Polo Bend, barrel race, and junior senior divisions produced multiple champions led by Hare with several other winners and awards totaling firsts and ribbons through sixth place.
