Roswell Man Found Dead In Car Under Bridge

William L. Jones, 61, of 1418 S Cahoon Ave, was found dead Thursday afternoon in a black 1966 Dodge under the Berrendo River bridge on North Main Street. Police say he died of multiple head injuries, and the car, buried in soft riverbed earth, had been under the bridge for about two days.

Humphrey undergoes surgery finds terminal pelvic cancer

Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey spent a quiet night in good spirits after surgery at the University of Minnesota Hospitals revealed terminal cancer of the pelvis. Dr. John Najarian said the 66 year old was comfortable, in minimal pain, and likely to be out of the hospital within a week if no complications arise.

AGs office probes Chaves County Open Meetings Act

The attorney general’s office opened an inquiry into whether the Chaves County Commission violated the Open Meetings Act by approving three projects for 892000 with potential EDA funding. An investigator sought May 10 minutes and spoke with Commissioner Aiello about the civic center health center amphitheater and maintenance building plans announced in July. Aiello said the investigator found no violation and noted the amphitheater and health center were tied to the civic center application as possible spin offs.
