Chicago august 17 hundreds of men were made members of the Ku Klux Klan at mystic initiation rites near Lake Zurich last night More than two thousand stood blindfolded in a downpouring rain and took the oath administered by William Joseph Simmons imperial wizard of that organization.
Austin Texas Aug. 17 Adjutant General Barton announced the legislature reduced the Ranger force to fifty officers and men. Seventeen Rangers will be discharged on September first as a result of the cutback.
Pedro Medrano, a Mexican youth, was fatally wounded early today when he refused to halt a car Montgomery alleged to be stolen. Montgomery surrendered to police and was released on his own recognizance. He said he sought a still hunt after discovering his car missing and ordered the driver to stop before opening fire.
A burglar entered Price & Company by roof and a small window into the office, stealing $25 from the cash register. Sidney Prager found nothing else missing. Tracks showed a man wearing number eight tennis shoes. Also noted was a forthcoming baseball gate at Thorne Park between West and East side teams led by Ed Williams and George Fletcher, plus a community street dance. Tom Lacey arrived from his southwest city home to attend to business.
In Dublin on August 17 De Valera told Dail Eireann that Ireland cannot and will not accept Britain’s terms. He dismissed dominion status as false and warned there would be no Ireland if the country were split, asserting Ireland has never been offered equal status with other dominions.

Mrs. Bettie Whaley, aunt of Mrs. A F Laws, died at the Laws home near Dexter at age 80 after living with Mrs Laws for 14 years. Funeral at Dilley chapel tomorrow at 10 with Rev Sidney M Bedford of the First Christian church in charge. Burial in South Fork. Mr and Mrs D Bailey and son of Snyder Oklahoma are in town en route to Old Mexico. Mrs Bailey spent time in the city last year and is known in the First Presbyterian church. Belgrade Aug 17 King Peter of Serbia died yesterday after a long illness. The Prince Regent Alexander ordered national mourning and planned full royal honors for the funeral. The king’s body will lie in state until the hour of the service.
A city rival game draws east and west teams of five regulars each, managed by George R. Fletcher and Ed J. Williams. Funds support ongoing season activities while a street dance led by Joe McCain and a chemical fire fighting demonstration by Charley Whitman promise free entertainment and community involvement.
Work has started on curbing and guttering along a five block stretch of East Fifth Street from the railroad to Garden Avenue in Roswell. Louis J.
