Young Democrats Attack Goldwater Campaign Tactics

New Mexico Young Democrats executive committee denounces Barry Goldwater and his party for extremist tactics and political philosophy. Five resolutions passed. quotes accuse campaign consultant Stephen Shadegg of endorsing Maoist strategies in past races. Release cites Donald Lukens, Young Republicans president, for a ten year plan to seize the press.

New Mexico Young Democrats Back Johnson and Campbells Work

The New Mexico Young Democrats committee approved resolutions praising President Johnson’s Vietnam actions and Governor Jack Campbell’s northern district efforts. They deplored extremism from both left and right, supported a broader conservation program, and named Darryl Samples as head of Young Citizens for Johnson with regional coordinators. A constitutional convention for Young Democrats may be held in September or October, and Carlos Espinoza received $100 to cover travel to the national convention. The next meeting will be in Santa Fe over Labor Day weekend.

Miss Wool 1965 Crowned Emily Adams of Vadito

Emily Adams 23 of Vadito wins the 1965 Miss Wool of New Mexico pageant in Roswell. First runner up Jeannie Stoneham of Lovington and Ellen Oppenheim of Albuquerque earned spots as finalists. Adams, a Highlands University junior, receives a 250 dollar scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to San Angelo for the national contest.

In Durango Colorado a marker with a bas relief was unveiled to honor Dr Charles D Rea the first Fort Lewis College president. Rea later became associate professor of education at Humboldt State College Arcata California having served as president from 1949 to 1962.
