Chaves County Search and Rescue based in Roswell operates as a volunteer arm linked to the NM State Police. The 15 members coordinate with Civil Air Patrol and other SAR teams, using four wheel drive vehicles, dogs, horses, and ham radio for large scale searches up to 300 miles away.
