Former Missouri senator George Vest died peacefully after weeks between life and death. Vest, born December 6 1830 in Frankfort Kentucky, served in the Missouri House Confederate Congress and US Senate, with his term ending in 1903. Remains will be interred in St Louis, while Missouri prepares funeral observances.
A fire at the American Refrigerating Transit Company repair shop in St. Louis destroyed 65 refrigerator cars and caused an estimated loss of 300000 dollars. Insurance covers the damage. Fire originated from a spark from a passing locomotive and spread only within the starting building, though adjacent property was menaced.
Mrs. E. W. Gazley and her two children visit W. M. Ferguson and family on his ranch southeast of town. Mrs. Gazley is Ferguson's daughter and comes from Austin Texas where her husband runs a large drug store.
Fire at the Touon arsenal in France destroyed two slips, one housing a torpedo boat, as crews including sailors soldiers and high officers fought the blaze through the night. Several soldiers injured and one fatality reported amid spreading flames and imminent collapse of the torpedo boat slip.
President Roosevelt declines to interfere in the death sentence of John W. Burley a African American jailed in the District of Columbia for criminal assault on a four and a half year old girl The president ordered the jury sentence to be carried out August 26th as decreed.
