Mayas used chocolate as sauce on plates says archaeologists
Archaeologists report 2,500-year-old chocolate residues on a Yucatan plate, suggesting cacao was used as a condiment with solid food rather than only as a beverage. The find at Paso del Macho, dated to 500 B.C., implies ancient Maya cuisine included cacao sauces similar to mole.
