Four hundred Allied prisoners, including 70 Americans, arrived at Freedom Village after a five week exchange from Panmunjom. Helicopter-evacuated litter patients were taken to hospital as censors restricted interviews and reporters.

County FHA Committee Faces Three Drought Loan Cases

Crop Duster Injured in Alamosa Plane Mishap

Charles Clawson, a crop duster, survived a Monday flight over farmer fields in Alamosa Colorado with a broken arm and facial burns after the motor failed mid pass. He managed a controlled landing and was hospitalized for treatment.

Enrollment in County Schools Seen Near 1952 Total

Chaves County schools project 1200 students for 1953 54 term about 100 more than last year with 53 teachers. Classes start August 31. teachers meet August 29 at Roswell Junior High School band room. Calendar lists 11 rural school dates with holidays and session days through May 1954. Pay schedule includes two September checks plus monthly close days based on attendance.

Roswell Chamber Plans Large Barbecue for Farmers and Ranchers

The Roswell Chamber of Commerce will host a ticketed barbecue on Aug. 18 for area farmers and ranchers to honor their role in generating 25 to 30 million dollars in new wealth annually. About 3,000 guests are expected. invitations will be mailed with return cards and tickets upon RSVP.

Mother Risked Life to Save Son From 53-Foot Well

In Greenville South Carolina a mother, Thelma Eshleman, leaped into a 53 foot well to rescue her 19 month old son Teddy who had fallen in. Firemen and policemen pulled them out with a hose roller. Both mother and child were unharmed aside from minor scrapes.
