Rotary Club Attends Meeting at Roswell and City Affairs

The Rotary Club met at Gilkeson with nine absentees among 47 members. A telegram from Clark Dilley was read while President and others in Kansas City sent best wishes from the hospital. Mrs. Van Denburgh sang an original song titled The Roswell Way dedicated to the club. With Dr. S M Johnson absent, W C Lawrence and Claude Hobbs filled in on roads and golf. Hobbs joked about golf as the Cubs debate. Lawrence criticized city spending and the nine council members, noting a seven million dollar tax base and a $12,000 fire truck purchase, a new fire station, and 1,500 dollars for hose.

Klan Disbands in North Carolina Under Crusade Chief

In Durham on August 5 the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in North Carolina were ordered disbanded by Grand Dragon Bruce Craven who called the Klan an organization that collects fees under false pretenses with no legal standing in the state and labeled it a failure and a fraud.

Klan Bills Put Forward in Texas Legislature

In Austin on August 5 two Wright-Patman measures to curb Ku Klux Klan activity were sent to the house with adverse reports. A minority report accompanied both measures, and a Patman bill to curb intimidation by secret organizations was sent to a sub committee for review.
