Observers must be trustworthy, alert, and able to report aircraft details such as strength altitude type direction and time of sighting.
Walter Prager former El Paso Telephone manager and Albuquerque Gas and Electric Co. executive died in Santa Monica California after a week long pneumonia. His brother Arthur Prager of Albuquerque was at his side. funeral services will be in Trinidad, the family's former home. Another brother resides in Denver and Sidney Prager of Roswell is his uncle.
Governor John E. Miles visits Las Vegas to attend the annual Cowboys' reunion. The New Mexico leader is marked present in the event in the city today.
In Vichy Aug 2, Marshal Petain Admiral Darlan and General Weygand reportedly unite against Nazi pressure demanding rights to North African bases including Dakar. The trio’s stance was relayed to Paris by Fernand De Brinon after a late cabinet session, amid severe censorship and a threat to alter Franco German relations.
Arthur J. Reich and Esther Lucy Wawrzyniakowski pleaded guilty before District Judge James B. McGhee to stealing a 1941 Mercury sedan from the Roswell Auto Company. Reich, shot in a highway chase, and his companion were arrested after a 3 a m pursuit ending with a gunfire warning and a scalp wound fragment. Reich admitted thefts in Waxahachie and prior prison workhouse and desertion sentences while sentencing was deferred for FBI records.
The Office of Price Administration and Civilian Supply orders rayon yarn producers to allocate one tenth of output to hosiery and silk firms. The move aims to prevent unemployment and economic dislocation as government gains full control of silk supplies and suspends civilian silk processing at midnight. About 175,000 silk workers face possible layoffs, prompting McNutt to direct immediate job registrations through state employment services.
Disputes over wages and overtime halted construction at five U S government munitions plants Saturday night. AFL building trades unions staged labor holidays at sites in St Louis, Sandusky Ohio, Ravenna Ohio, Kingsbury Indiana, and near Kansas City Missouri. An Chicago ratified agreement set wage scales and forbade strikes on defense projects, while establishing time and a half for overtime. The double time rule had applied to some projects. Santa Fe New Mexico August 2 Governor John E Miles responded to criticism of the highway program before leaving for Las Vegas He said changes were driven by national emergency and that he would not bow to complaints He cited defense priorities material shortages and spring flood damage of 1.5 million as reasons for road delays but remained confident he could fulfill promised projects by the end of his term.
On Saturday afternoon and evening, two minor automobile accidents occurred with no injuries. The first at 3:20 p.m. on East 4th Street involved Felipe Gombo and Edith Clubb as Clubb was leaving the curb. The second at Alameda and Delaware involved Calvin Waters and Burl H. Lewis.
Mrs. John A. Barnett was summoned to Dallas by the death of her father, J. A. Conner, who died there at 6 30 last night. She had been making periodic trips to Dallas during his illness.

Moscow greets reports that German forces have been smashed back on all fronts in six weeks of brutal warfare. Casualties and losses cited run into millions with claims of 300 German tanks two infantry divisions and two regiments destroyed. Lozovsky says the Reichswehr bogged down and defeat nears.
The Southwest Lumber Co mills in Alamogordo New Mexico resume Monday after a settlement ending a three million dollar defense project strike at Fort Bliss Texas. Workers secured a nine cent hourly wage increase with talks due August 10 on further union demands. Labor Commissioner Vincent Jaeger participated in the conferences. Union officials sought pay parity with Albuquerque mills and reclassification of workers. Strikers had pressed for higher raises tied to log and price scales across the industry.
Berlin reports six weeks of German offensives have driven a wedge toward Moscow with heavy Russian counterattacks under way and a second salient south of Kiev as the German front struggles. The DNB says Russian forces massed heavy tanks are countering near Vyazma and Smolensk, where encirclements are reported to have formed.
Roswell seeks more volunteers with first aid training for Civilian Defense units. Chaves County Red Cross chair Joe Strong says 14 instructors are ready, but few have completed the advanced course needed for staffing. A standard course will convene at 7:30 tomorrow night at the Chamber of Commerce.
A large crowd gathered at the Roswell airport yesterday around 11:15 as a U S Army Boeing long range bomber circled the town. The four metric ship skimmed about ten feet above the runway with wheels down, then departed toward Albuquerque.
The New Mexico Transportation Company announces the purchase of Pageway Stage Lines, operating Roswell to Pecos via Artesia and Carlsbad. The Pageway franchise will transfer on August 5, with no equipment, only the franchise. The firm adds four buses and expands to about 7,000 daily bus miles across three statewide routes serving major cities.
