Reservist suit alleges violation of constitutional rights

A group of 113 Army Reservists from Ohio contends in U S District Court that their call to active duty violated their constitutional rights. The Cleveland unit was activated for two years starting May 13 and moved to Ft. Meade Maryland as the 1002nd Combat Support Company. They name Defense Secretary Clark Clifford Army Secretary Stanley Resor Army Chief Harold Johnson and Ft. Meade officials as defendants. The petition argues enlistment contracts limited active duty without consent except in war or national emergency. Each member enlisted before Oct 15 1966 for six years inactive and up to 17 days annual active duty with prior active duty for training.

July 1968 Roswell Sets Wettest July On Record

Roswell's July 1968 rainfall totaled 5.50 inches, the wettest July since 1894, surpassing the 5.32 inches of July 1939. A 24 hour tally reached 0.51 inch, with 0.02 inch after midnight. July also saw new record low temperatures at Bitter Lake refuge and nearby sites, while statewide figures showed Albuquerque at 0.99 inch and Deming at 1.45 inches.
