A Roswell marketing executive says GM and Chevrolet are counter-attacking on foreign car competition. The note appears in the Daily Record Roswell.
Three Iranian gunmen seized the Iranian embassy in London holding about 20 people including a police officer. A woman hostage was freed around 4 30 p.m. after about five hours. Gunmen said to be southern Iranians demanded prisoner releases and a plane to depart, with authorities negotiating.
Former Budget Director Bert Lance and two co defendants were acquitted on nine counts of misapplication of bank funds and false statements. Jurors deadlocked on remaining counts. Co defendant Thomas Mitchell exonerated on four counts. Richard Carr and H Jackson Mullins absolved on some counts with others undecided. Lance said they were delighted.
More than 200 people joined a procession from the Post Office to the Courthouse on National Prayer and Fasting Day. The march began around 5 30 p.m. with a police escort as the New Mexico Military Institute Band led the group along Fifth Street to the courthouse lawn.
