Two Wichita men piloting a light plane tried to land on U S 60 in dense fog. The plane bounced off the truck, rolled into a ditch and was demolished, but pilot William Keaton aged 21 and passenger Ray Lee Strickland unhurt. The truck suffered little damage.
Chaves County Heart Association elected Dr. K. L. Bergener as president and Dr. Dan Cahoon as president-elect at the annual dinner at Leonards. Officers include Jewell Middleton secretary Jim Miller treasurer George Hunker chair executive board and directors Mrs Clayton Meairs Mrs Oscar Greene Dexter Pr Emmit Jennings Jud Roberts. Medallions were given to Mrs Oscar Greene John Hall Jr Field Robinson. Certificates of merit to KSWS KGFL Roswell Daily Record KBIM news staff and to retiring secretary Wanda Ferguson. Dr Steve Marshall introduced honorees and named new secretary Mrs Duane Myer.
Frank Garrod of VFW Post 2575 announced a local beauty pageant for Chaves county women aged 18 to 28. The winner advances to Albuquerque for Miss New Mexico and then Miss U S A in Long Beach, with entry blanks available via Sam Sloan and Salem Curtis.
Hollywood mourns Belle Baker 58 famed torch singer dies after heart attack at Beverly Hills home. Her body to be sent to New York City birthplace for burial, reflecting a career in 1920s and 30s vaudeville and radio with a major following.
Tommy Manville and Patricia Anne Gaston, a Ziegfeld Follies showgirl, secured a marriage license at City Hall and plan to marry Sunday. It will be Manville's tenth marriage.
