New Mexico outlines Medicaid provider rate cuts
The Human Services Department proposes cutting reimbursement rates to about 2,000 physicians and hospitals by 3 to 8 percent to save the state general fund up to 33 million annually. Preventive care and obstetrics would be exempt. University of New Mexico Hospital faces the steepest cuts at 8 percent inpatient and 5 percent outpatient. Public hospitals and private facilities would see a 5 percent inpatient and 3 percent outpatient reduction, while some dental and community-benefit services would also be affected. The plan aims to protect basic health benefits for vulnerable residents amid budget gaps and potential loss of federal matching funds.
