Lawmakers Reach Deal On Six Year Farm Bill
Lawmakers announced a tentative six year farm bill reaching 73.5 billion dollars in new spending over a decade with a total 107 billion dollars for existing programs. The agreement preserves a crop subsidy program despite calls to curb big farm payouts and adds dairy subsidies and country of origin labeling. It also includes a new 2 billion dollar conservation program and aims to restore food-stamp eligibility for non citizens. Negotiations continue as cost estimates and regional disputes linger.
