Committee named to organize delegates for state convention

The Chaves county democratic central committee appointed a panel to handle the June 3 state convention. Judge Granville A. Richardson named subcommittees and leaders including John W. Rhea as chairman and J D Atwood M H Ward J H McCain D P Greiner R L Bradley Tomlinson Force and Guy Herbert. Richardson also oversees housing with Will C. Lawrence of the Chamber of Commerce managing visitor accommodations.

Government seeks rehearing in antitrust steel case

Washington April 28 The government asked the Supreme Court for a rehearing of the antitrust suit against United States Steel Corporation recently decided adversary to the government. The move reopen s the long fight to dissolve the corporation and have it declared a combination in restraint of trade.

Japs Land Troops in Siberia and Demand Russian Surrenders

Two Japanese warships landed troops at Alexanderofsky a Siberian port four hundred miles north of Vladivostok. Russian troops retreated without resistance as Tokyo delivered an ultimatum to the provisional government demanding withdrawal of armed Russians from Japanese-occupied areas and turnover of all warships arms munitions and barracks to Japanese forces.

Flour prices reach peak as car shortage eases

Minneapolis, April 28 flour prices hit a peak for the year at 15.30 a carload. Milling authorities report that a forthcoming easing of the grain car shortage will enable dealers to move millions of bushels of wheat now tied up in elevators.

City police court files three complaints today

Three complaints were filed in the city police court including fighting against Walter Mc Donald, speeding against Joe Glasscock, and riding bicycles on the sidewalk against Rob knowrn Lawhern and A C Jones. Rev Greever arrived in town from El Paso to spend several days on business. A death near Knowles was reported by a long distance message. Hawkins was killed and Chance was named as alleged slayer, with Dow and Gilbert traveling to Knowles to investigate.

M. A. Finley arrived back from Pecos Texas after days tending oil interests. The A C F well has reached over 400 feet with strong indications. Finley expresses optimism about prospects south of Carlsbad, asserting a favorable outlook for the field.

Girl asked him to kill her and he did

Vera Schneider a nineteen year old telephone operator was found strangled on a porch in Pontiac Michigan. Allen Best 24 confessed to prosecutors that she asked him to end her life and he tied a makeshift noose around her neck. He said he washed his hands and left the scene. The report notes other local travel and business in Carlsbad.

Wood Leading Johnson By Narrow Margin in New Jersey

NEW YORK April 28 General Wood leads Senator Johnson in the New Jersey preference primary by 533 votes with 166 precincts missing. Wood’s headquarters report all four delegates-at-large claimed while Johnson concedes only six district delegates of twenty four, leaving the preferential race in doubt pending a full official count. Harding leads in Ohio with neck and neck returns. Ohio report estimates Harding ahead by under a thousand with 60 percent of precincts in. An earlier Ohio report estimated Harding’s plurality at about twenty thousand. Wood believed to have won eight district delegates leaving forty for Harding. Governor Cox endorsed on Democratic ticket. In Massachusetts Wood wins six of thirty five delegates. remaining unpledged but to vote for Coolidge. Democratic delegation unpledged. no presidential vote on either ticket.
