McNamara Rules Out Nuclear Use in Viet Nam
Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara told a national media briefing that there is no military need for nuclear weapons in South Viet Nam. He said about 39,000 Communists have crossed the border and 89,000 guerrillas have been killed, with U.S. costs running about 1.5 billion dollars annually for land sea and air forces. McNamara warned of North Vietnamese buildup near Da Nang and noted the United States has added naval and air power to interdict infiltrators by sea from the North. He stressed the option remains open but offered no comment on remote contingencies.

Sniper Kills Two On U S 101 In Santa Barbara County

Morse Denounces Rusk and McNamara in Senate Attack
Sen. Wayne Morse denounced Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara in the Senate calling them immoral and godless for U S policy in South Vietnam. A family of seven traveling on U S 70-80 was hit when their station wagon bypassed a highway project barrier and struck a road maintenance roller.
