Mark Edwards aged two narrowly escaped death after falling ten feet onto a narrow ledge on a cliff in Laguna Beach California. His grandmother Mrs Alfred Bauer paused to admire flowers when the accident occurred. A park attendant police and ambulance quickly descended a rescuer to lift the boy to safety.
Leonard LaFond and Jo Anne Severson pleaded guilty to first degree murder in Wa tauga County Superior Court for stabbing Lewis A. Finn in Blowing Rock North Carolina. They face life sentences with possible mercy considerations and were connected to a killing in Mammoth Cave National Park after a hitchhiking journey from Milwaukee to Florida then westward.
Col Harold T. Kelly 53 retired New Mexico Military Institute faculty member died at St Marys Hospital after ill health. He served 27 years with the institute, including time as assistant commandant 1927 1937 and head of the social science division from 1951 until retirement in 1954. A memorial service and requiem mass are planned.

Hollywood mourns Edward Arnold who died today at his Encino home from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 66. His wife Cleo was by his side. physician son-in-law Dr. William F. Orlando of Northridge confirmed the death after Arnold spent 49 years in show business. Born Guenther Schneider in New York City on February 18 1890, he had just finished The Ambassador's Daughter in Paris and recently appeared on television while planning a New York movie.
The New Mexico Education Association spring council meets in Albuquerque with about 600 delegates expected from across the state. Delegates were chosen by local NMEA groups and will gather at the Albuquerque High School Auditorium on Friday and Saturday.
In Middlebury Vermont a double fire struck Fire Chief Harry Whitney’s house. He initially extinguished a chimney blaze but it rekindled and spread to the attic and roof. Neighbors removed items including a live stove from the burning home, wearing gloves during the effort.
A Chicago loading dock reported a theft of electric fans valued at 8000 dollars. No suspects named and no injuries reported. Investigations ongoing.
Two airmen from Walker Base were injured in a two car collision at 3.55 p.m. yesterday at South Main and West Hobbs. The drivers were Wilbur E. Denny and Albert, both 25 and members of the 509th Air Refueling Squadron.

Democratic Gov Edwin C Johnson wore an Ike 1956 campaign button pinned by singer James Melton during a Capitol courtesy visit. Johnson later explained to reporters that former Senator John son did not know the button’s meaning and kept it on briefly. The governor endorsed Lyndon Johnson for president.
Janet Blair says she is thrilled to work with Sid Caesar and that they became great friends and admire each other. Blair was chosen as Caesar’s new TV wife after a monthlong search, replacing Nanette Fabray who left over a salary dispute.
Burglars forced open the walk in safe at Las Vegas High School last night or today and escaped with about 500 dollars. The theft was found at 7 a.m. by the janitor. Hinges were ripped from the safe and cash from school and student funds was taken. Checks lay scattered. a lone $5 bill was left behind. Police investigated the incident.

George Davis, 43, was arrested for investigation of murder after a dispute over a woman housed there. Robert Venney, 42, who ran the rooming house, was jailed as a witness and for operating a hotel without proper registry.

He warned the Reds might hesitate to attempt an assault that could cost many lives, and said he did not expect an attack while the U.S. 7th Fleet continues to patrol Asian waters.
