Spectral lines from SS433 show wild Doppler shifts and rapid blue and red shifts of elements like hydrogen and helium. Observers at Lick Observatory tie the shifting lines to extreme velocities potentially placing the object within the Milky Way or nearby, with relativity affecting observed wavelengths. Margon reports these findings from a Munich conference and notes the dual shifts suggest gas moving toward and away from Earth at tens of thousands of miles per second.
