Congress approves evacuation plan for Vietnam and allies

Congress authorizes President Ford to use limited U.S. troops to evacuate Americans and Vietnamese from South Vietnam. The House 230 to 187 and Senate 75 to 17 votes set aid bills totaling about 327 million and 250 million respectively, with conferees to craft a compromise. Rep. Harold Runnels opposed the measure. Sen. Pete Domenici and Sen. Joseph Montoya supported it.

North Main Street project may finish early

A Los Alamos teenager remained in intensive care after an explosion in the high school chemistry lab. Hospital officials said Robert Nance lost three fingers on his left hand in the Wednesday accident.
