In Pennsylvania, Edward Kennedy won a thin victory over Carter to sustain his 1980 campaign while George Bush gained more votes but fewer delegates than Ronald Reagan. With 1.5 million votes cast, Kennedy led Carter from the start and remained ahead as late tabulations favored him, leaving a split 185-member delegation.
C. W. Cliff Wagner of Roswell announces Republican candidacy for Chaves County Commissioner in District 3. He will face incumbent Gary A. Barnett in the June 3 primary and promotes new county leadership amid federal funding questions.
Tito remains in critical condition with shock and coma after a long illness. Doctors report extensive organ failure including liver and kidney problems and pneumonia. Tito, hospitalised in Ljubljana since January 3, has undergone bypass failures and leg amputation.
State police received reports of a slow moving bright airborne object that blinked when spotlighted and disappeared near Philmont Scout Ranch. The object was seen for about an hour and a half from 9:45 to 11:15 p.m. Tuesday with no audible noise.
