Toledo April 23 AP Officials of Chevrolet Motor Co closed its Toledo plant today, putting 2340 workers out of work as United Automobile Workers Federal Union members walked out. About 600 union men joined the first shift while others were sent home. Dean said the plant is definitely closed, affecting 1200 more on a second shift and all 3340 local payroll workers. The strike, described as nationally significant, followed rejection of a closed shop while offers included a 5 percent wage increase and seniority recognition. Contract terms proposed by the union included a five day week and 70 cent minimum wage, with objections to a speed-up system.

Armed men hold up couple at Hobbs in robbery

Two Men Guilty of Manslaughter in Boy’s Fright Death
