RATON New Mexico April 21 Former Colfax county sheriff Barney Mitchell now an under sheriff has been named Raton police chief by R L McQuaire the city's new democratic mayor. McQuaire took office last night his only unanimously approved appointment was W D Moore renamed fire chief. Former district attorney Verdan Doggett became city attorney and Richard Gaskin was held over as clerk. Six democrats and four republicans comprise the council but on several votes last night Mc Quire had no ballot to break a 5 5 deadlock.
