Montoya Faces Tough Odds If Runnels Lujan or Sheen Runs
A confidential New Mexico poll of 1400 residents, concentrated in Albuquerque and Las Cruces, shows Sen. Joseph Montoya trailing potential rivals in 1976 races. In a Senate primary, Runnels leads Montoya 44 to 28 with 8 for Simms. If Runnels secures the nomination, he would likely defeat Skeen, while against Montoya, candidate Skeen trails by two points. Lujan dominates in District 1 against King and Burrell, and would beat Montoya 67 to 24 in that district. In District 2, Runnels leads Trubey 74 to 15 and would beat Schmitt 77 to 0 with undecided voters remaining.

DC inmates seize maximum security cellblock hostage crisis ends
Inmates seized control of the District of Columbia jail’s maximum security block and held 11 staff for 162 hours before release after negotiations. The hostages were deemed in excellent condition. An inmate expressed that a committee would monitor jail procedures and reforms including family visits and medical care.

Howes back barely after Da Nang evacuation
Lawrence P. Howes, Roswell retired Air Force captain and civilian advisor in South Vietnam, returned home two weeks ago after evacuating Da Nang when it was overrun. He flew from Marble Mountain to Saigon on Easter Sunday aboard a WWII C46, noting the limited seating and baggage capacity.

Gov. Jerry Apodaca will host his first open office hours outside Santa Fe next Tuesday in Roswell.
