Air battles over Syria as both sides claim hits

Syrian MIGs claim direct hits on Israeli positions with heavy losses and seven planes downed, while Israel says no casualties and all jets returned. Landman Association honors Powless with lifetime membership

R Clayton Powless 65 of Midland Texas received the New Mexico Landman's Assn highest award a lifetime membership plaque at a Roswell Inn dinner He is a Getty Oil landman specialist in the Midland District retired after 44 years He helped found the association with Brantly Jackson and O E Langley now deceased and has held multiple oil industry positions.

Inflation Surges as March Prices Jump 1.1 Percent

The Labor Department reports consumer prices rose 1.1 percent in March, lifting the year over year gain to 10.2 percent and marking the largest 12 month increase since 1948. The first quarter saw a 14.5 percent annual rate, the worst since 1951, while GNP fell 9.5 percent at a 4Q pace.
