Roswell School Board Advances 1973-74 Budget Plan
Roswell Independent School District leaders unanimously approved the proposed 1973-74 budget pending a formal hearing next month with Chief of Public School Finance Harry Wagakter. The budget totals about 7.7 million dollars in local expenditures with total resources around 8.3 million, up slightly from last year. The board also approved a revised average five percent teacher salary increase and fringe benefits for the coming year, plus 432 personnel renewals including tenure for about 40 teachers.

Las Cruces Family and Student Die in California Crash
An assistant Las Cruces High football coach his wife and two children and a Las Cruces student died in a two car crash near Salton City California during a sandstorm. A 17 year old Las Cruces player also perished. The other driver Chester Lemeke survived with minor injuries. The crash happened while the Nebraska NewMexicans were attending a quarterbacks seminar.

Mike Ditka will keynote the New Mexico Landmen's Association meeting at the Roswell Inn Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Social hour starts at 6:30. Tickets cost 2 dollars at the door. Ditka played for the Bears Eagles and Cowboys and earned the nickname The Hammer in college basketball. He shares Dallas residence with wife Marge and four children. Ditka co-owns the Sportspage Club in Dallas with Dave Edwards.
